How to Plant a Water Lotus
Step 1. Start with a thick layer of The Pond Guy’s Aquatic Planting Soil, filling a planting container about 75% full.
Step 2. Deposit the water lotus in the center of the soil horizontally, with the root end close to the wall of the pot and the growing tip pointed upward and exposed above the soil. Add one Thrive fertilizer tablet per gallon of soil for best results.
Step 3. Fill the rest of the pot with The Pond Guy’s Aquatic Planting Media to trap soil, protect roots, promote oxygenation, and support beneficial bacteria. If you don’t have media, one to three inches of gravel may suffice.
Step 4. Water thoroughly and submerge the entire pot in your pond, leaving three to six inches of water above the growing tip of the stem.
Step 5. Once the leaves grow enough to reach the water’s surface, move the pot to a deeper area of your pond.

Fertilization
Regular fertilization of your Water Lotus will keep it growing well all season long. Fertilize every two to four weeks by inserting one or two CrystalClear Thrive Fertilizer Tablets into the planting soil layer of your pot at planting time and from April through August, see label for fertilizer application rates.
Plant Maintenance
For best results, trim or prune lotus as leaves and flowers begin to turn yellow or brown, remove them completely, discarding them to keep as much excess organic material out of water-body as possible.
Winter Care
Lotus on plant-shelves, in planting containers, should be trimmed to 1 to 2" and then gently lowered into deeper water. All plants submerged before winter must be brought back up as soon as the ice has permanently thawed, and before any plant growth occurs. In Zones 6 and warmer, most pond plants can tolerate being left in place without moving them at all.
